Iyabo Obasanjo confirms membership of APC, says it’s natural home

Former senator and daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, has openly confirmed that she is now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the ruling party as her “natural home.” She made this known during a radio interview on Saturday, ending weeks of speculation about her political future.

Speaking on Eagle7 Sports Radio (103.7FM) in an interview with football icon Segun Odegbami, Iyabo revealed that her return to politics came after sustained encouragement from supporters who believe she remains the best choice for leadership. She explained that the group backing her had been active for years before convincing her to rejoin the political scene ahead of the 2027 general elections in Ogun State.

The former Ogun State Commissioner for Health said returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not an option due to internal crises within the party. While she acknowledged that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was considered, she noted that the party is still undergoing structural organisation and is not yet fully prepared for major political contests.

Iyabo Obasanjo stressed that her final decision followed wide consultations, adding that all those who encouraged her political comeback are members of the APC. DAILY POST reports that she has since completed the APC e-registration exercise at Ibogun, Ward 11, Ifo Local Government Area, formally confirming her membership and signaling her readiness to play an active role in the party.
