Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks on Abande and Turan communities in Kwande Local Government Area. The governor described the attacks as a direct challenge to the state and Nigeria’s security system, stressing that those responsible would be confronted decisively.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the attack on Abande occurred on a market day when armed assailants opened fire on residents, killing several people and setting houses ablaze. The incident left the community in shock and mourning, with both civilians and a police officer among the victims.
Governor Alia expressed deep sympathy with the affected families and communities, describing the violence as a cruel and inhuman act. He assured the people of Benue that his administration remains fully committed to protecting lives and property. The governor disclosed that he has directed security agencies to intensify operations in the area and pursue the attackers relentlessly until peace is restored.
He also reassured the people of Turan and the entire Kwande Local Government Area that they are not alone, pledging continued collaboration with federal security agencies and local intelligence networks. Governor Alia urged residents to remain united, hopeful, and resilient, expressing confidence that Benue State will overcome the current security challenges.
