The Anambra State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has expressed serious concern over the increasing use of hard drugs among young people in the state. The NDLEA boss described the trend as disturbing and warned that it poses a major threat to the future of the youths and society at large.
Speaking during an awareness engagement, the NDLEA commander said many young people are now exposed to dangerous substances that affect their health, behaviour, and productivity. He noted that drug abuse has continued to fuel crime, school dropouts, and broken families across communities in the state.
The NDLEA boss explained that the agency is stepping up efforts to fight drug abuse through arrests, rehabilitation, and public education. He stressed the importance of early intervention, adding that prevention through awareness remains one of the most effective ways to reduce drug demand among youths.
He also called on parents, schools, religious leaders, and community groups to support the agency’s campaign against drug abuse. According to him, tackling the problem requires collective action to guide young people away from harmful substances and toward positive and productive lifestyles.
