A Kano State High Court has adjourned the ongoing trial of former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and other defendants to April 15, 2026. The adjournment is to allow the court hear all pending applications in the case, which involves allegations of large-scale misappropriation of public funds. Ganduje is standing trial alongside his wife, Hafsat Umar, and several individuals and companies.
The defendants are facing an 11-count charge that includes allegations of bribery, conspiracy, misappropriation and diversion of public funds amounting to billions of naira. Other parties listed in the case include Abubakar Bawuro, Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Ltd, Safari Textiles Ltd and Lasage General Enterprises Ltd. When the matter came up in court, the prosecution confirmed its readiness to proceed and requested permission to submit additional proof of evidence.
On the defence side, multiple applications were brought before the court. Lawyers representing the various defendants informed the judge of motions seeking a stay of proceedings, preliminary objections and requests for extensions of time to respond to legal arguments. Some defence counsels also disclosed that related applications were already before the Court of Appeal, urging the court to take note.
After listening to all parties, the trial judge, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, ruled that all preliminary objections and pending motions would be taken together. She subsequently adjourned the case to April 15 for a comprehensive hearing of the applications, a move expected to determine the next direction of the high-profile trial.
