Senator Pam Dachungyang, who represents Plateau North in the National Assembly, has officially defected from the Action Democratic Party (ADP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He announced his decision during Senate plenary on Thursday, bringing an end to weeks of speculation about his political future. Until his defection, Dachungyang was the only ADP member in the Senate.
In his letter of defection, which was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the senator blamed his decision on deep internal problems within the ADP. He explained that ongoing disagreements and unresolved issues in the party made it difficult for him to function effectively and represent his constituents as he desired. According to him, these challenges forced him to seek a more stable political platform.
Dachungyang said his move to the APC followed wide consultations with key stakeholders in Plateau North, including his constituents and political allies. He noted that joining the APC would better align with his goals of good governance, inclusive development, and effective representation for the people of his senatorial district.
The senator expressed confidence that the APC offers a stronger and more progressive structure for him to continue serving his constituents and the country. He formally requested acceptance into the party, stressing that his decision was taken in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and with a renewed commitment to public service.
