Former senator and human rights activist, Shehu Sani, has urged Nigerians in the United States to remain law-abiding and not attempt to hide amid ongoing deportation threats. He emphasized the importance of cooperating with U.S. authorities and following proper legal channels to address immigration issues.
Sani noted that efforts to evade authorities could worsen the situation for Nigerians, stressing that transparent engagement with legal processes is the safest approach. He advised Nigerian citizens to seek assistance from consular officials and legal representatives to ensure compliance with U.S. laws.
The former senator also called on the Nigerian government to proactively provide support for its citizens abroad, including awareness campaigns and access to legal guidance. According to him, collaboration between affected individuals and authorities is key to preventing unnecessary complications or penalties.
Shehu Sani reiterated that while facing deportation can be stressful, hiding is not a viable solution. Nigerians are encouraged to address the situation responsibly, maintain their rights, and uphold the country’s image abroad.
