Gunmen have killed two people and injured four others during a late-night attack on a farm near an illegal mining site in Taran, Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. Police authorities confirmed that the incident happened around 11:30 pm on Thursday, January 29.
According to security sources, the attackers stormed the farm, which belongs to the Ban Community, and opened fire on people present at the site before escaping under the cover of darkness. The attack caused panic in the area, with residents fleeing for safety as the gunmen withdrew.
Police were alerted to the incident around 8:00 am on Friday. Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Barkin-Ladi mobilised officers and led a team to the scene. The injured victims were taken to Ntiang Clinic in Heipang, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
The bodies of the two deceased persons were deposited at the General Hospital mortuary for autopsy. Police say investigations have begun, and efforts are underway to track down and arrest those behind the deadly raid, as security operations continue in the area.
