At least four residents of Gwargwaba village in Nahuce District, Bungudu Local Government Area, Zamfara State, were killed on Thursday evening after armed bandits attacked the community. The assailants, reportedly heavily armed, stormed the village around 6:00 p.m., setting several homes on fire and trapping victims inside.
In addition to the fatalities, the bandits destroyed food stores and killed livestock belonging to villagers. Security analyst Bakatsine noted on X that the attack was reportedly triggered by the community’s refusal to pay unlawful levies demanded by the armed group.
The incident highlights the ongoing insecurity in Zamfara State, where banditry has led to widespread fear and economic disruption. Villagers who resist paying extortion demands often face violent reprisals, leaving many homes and livelihoods destroyed.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the attack. Security analysts continue to call for intensified military and community protection measures to curb the frequent bandit attacks across the region.
