Super Eagles: Weird coach, he benched me – Onazi slams Siasia

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, has openly criticized ex-head coach Samson Siasia, describing him as a “weird coach” for benching him during his tenure. Onazi, who enjoyed consistent starting positions under other managers, made the remarks during a recent episode of the Abu Azeez Podcast.

The former Lazio star said he rarely faced challenges in the national team and was a regular starter in almost all his appearances. “I think in all the games I played for the Super Eagles, 98% I was starting. It was only when Siasia came into the national team that I had some changes,” Onazi explained.

Onazi further highlighted the coach’s short stint with the team, noting that the Eagles lost both games Siasia managed, reportedly against Egypt, which led to his dismissal. The midfielder expressed his surprise at the decision to bench him, calling Siasia’s approach unusual.

He concluded by emphasizing his strong performance and regular contributions to the Super Eagles, contrasting them with the brief and challenging period under Siasia’s leadership.
