The Federal Government has extended the deadline for student loan applications for the 2025/2026 academic session. The extension was announced by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, giving students more time to apply and benefit from the scheme.

According to NELFUND, the application deadline has been moved from January 31, 2026, to February 27, 2026. The Managing Director of the fund, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, explained that the decision was taken to allow more eligible students to complete and submit their applications without pressure.

Sawyerr said the extension shows the government’s commitment to inclusiveness and equal access to education. He noted that some applicants needed extra time to gather required documents and finish the application process, and the new deadline would ensure that no qualified student is left out.

NELFUND has therefore urged all students who have not applied or who are yet to complete their applications to use the additional time wisely. Prospective beneficiaries were advised to ensure that all required details are correctly submitted on or before February 27, 2026.
