Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has responded to threats by former governors Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu to take him to court over his decision to carry out official duties from his private residence in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area. The governor said he is not disturbed by the threat and has instructed his legal team to be ready for any action.
Speaking on the issue, Otti explained that his temporary operation from his home in Nvosi was necessitated by the poor condition of the Government House in Umuahia. He stated that the facility was not fit for use when he assumed office, adding that renovation and reconstruction work is already ongoing to restore it to proper standard.
The governor dismissed claims that his action violated the constitution, insisting that there is no law that mandates a governor to operate strictly from a particular location. According to him, governance is about service delivery and results, not about the physical location from which official duties are carried out. He stressed that Abia residents are more concerned about development and good governance than where he works from.
Otti also expressed surprise that some of the criticism came from outside the state, describing it as unnecessary political distraction. He assured Abians that his administration remains focused on rebuilding the state and delivering on its promises, regardless of threats or criticism from political opponents.
