The Osun State Local Government Service Commission has carried out a fresh redeployment of senior council administrators across the state, amid an ongoing controversy over local government leadership and funding. In a letter dated January 26, 2026, and signed by the commission’s Permanent Secretary, Mudashir Oyedeji, five Heads of Local Government Administration (HLAs) were directed to report to new duty posts with immediate effect.
The reshuffle affected officers previously serving in Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), who were reassigned to full local government councils or different administrative units. Notably, Yakubu Adekunle Oni was transferred from Irewole North East LCDA to Boripe Local Government Area, a council politically linked to former governor Adegboyega Oyetola. Other affected officers include Bolaji Wasiu Ayoola, Emmanuel Oluwole Ademokoya, Adebisi Lateef Kayode and Isaac Tope Akinwumi.
According to the deployment schedule, Ayoola moved from Ife South West LCDA to Ola-Oluwa Local Government, while Ademokoya was redeployed from Oriade South LCDA to Atakumosa East. Kayode was transferred from Ede East LCDA to Oriade Local Government, and Akinwumi moved from Egbedore South LCDA to Ife East Central LCDA. The commission did not explain the reasons for the redeployment or clarify the status of officials previously overseeing the affected councils.
The redeployment has sparked political reactions, coming amid a prolonged dispute between the Osun State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over control of local councils. APC supporters claimed the move was aimed at weakening the party’s influence at the grassroots, while supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke dismissed the allegation, insisting the state government has the constitutional power to deploy civil servants. The disagreement continues as the legality of local council leadership remains before the courts.
