Nigeria, Türkiye to fast-track trade, energy, defence ties —Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that Nigeria and Türkiye have agreed to speed up cooperation in key sectors including trade, energy and defence. He said the renewed partnership is aimed at boosting job creation, attracting investment and promoting shared prosperity for citizens of both countries.

The President disclosed this on Tuesday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle during his ongoing state visit to Ankara, Türkiye. Tinubu said his discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan focused on strengthening bilateral relations and delivering practical economic benefits.

According to Tinubu, both leaders reaffirmed a shared vision centred on expanding opportunities for businesses and workers. He noted that Nigeria and Türkiye agreed to increase trade volumes and remove long-standing structural barriers that have slowed business growth between the two nations.

The President added that enhanced collaboration in energy and defence would further deepen trust and stability, while opening new areas for investment. He expressed confidence that the renewed engagement would translate into real gains for Nigerians and Turks alike in the near future.
