Bandits kill three police officers in Katsina ambush

Three police officers have been confirmed dead following an ambush by suspected bandits in Katsina State. The attack occurred along the Guga–Bakori road in Bakori Local Government Area, highlighting the persistent security challenges facing the state despite ongoing patrols and counter-crime efforts.

According to the Katsina State Police Command, the incident happened around 12:44 p.m. on Tuesday when officers were on a routine anti-crime patrol. Armed assailants reportedly laid an ambush and opened fire on the patrol team, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire between both sides.

Police spokesperson Aliyu Abubakar disclosed that three officers were fatally wounded during the clash, while two others sustained injuries. He said the injured officers were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention and responding to treatment.

The police command has condemned the attack and assured the public that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible. Authorities also reiterated their commitment to strengthening patrols and improving security across vulnerable areas of Katsina State to prevent further attacks.
