Staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have declared that although they have suspended their strike action, they will not resume work and will instead remain at home until their demands are met. This stance follows a court order directing them to halt the ongoing industrial action.
Earlier on Tuesday, the National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Abuja granted an interlocutory injunction sought by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Administration. The ruling ordered workers under the Joint Union Action Committee to immediately suspend the strike. Despite the court decision, workers who gathered after the ruling made it clear that compliance does not mean a return to duty.
One of the workers, speaking angrily, said the decision to stay at home was deliberate and peaceful. According to him, the workers are no longer on strike but will not report to their offices until their grievances are fully addressed. He stressed that the welfare, dignity, and safety of FCTA staff must be respected, adding that workers would not be intimidated into resuming work under unfavourable conditions.
The development signals a fresh twist in the ongoing labour dispute within the FCTA, as services across the capital territory may continue to be disrupted. For now, the workers insist that dialogue and concrete action on their demands, not force or court orders alone, will determine when they finally return to work.
