Nigerian govt gives update on national grid collapse

The Nigerian government has confirmed that restoration of the national electricity grid has been completed following a collapse on Tuesday, the second such incident since last Friday. The Nigeria Independent System Operator (NISO) reported that electricity restoration began around 11:00 a.m., shortly after the collapse, which occurred at about 10:48 a.m.

According to NISO, the grid disturbance originated from the Gombe Transmission Substation. The event affected transmission lines and generating units, causing a partial system collapse that impacted Jebba, Kainji, and Ayede Transmission Substations. Corrective measures were promptly implemented to stabilise the network.

NISO clarified that the disruption affected only part of the national grid and was not a total collapse, contrary to some reports. Electricity supply across the affected regions has since returned to normal, with operations fully restored by 11:11 a.m.

Authorities assured Nigerians that continuous monitoring and corrective actions are in place to prevent future occurrences. They emphasised that the power system is now stable and fully operational across the country.
