Former England striker Gary Lineker has described Manchester United defender Harry Maguire as one of the most underrated players in modern football. Lineker made the remark following Maguire’s impressive display in Manchester United’s 3–2 Premier League win over Arsenal on Sunday, a performance that drew fresh attention to the defender’s qualities.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker praised Maguire’s overall game, particularly his composure on the ball and consistency at international level. He noted that despite frequent criticism at club level, the centre-back has continued to deliver solid performances whenever he pulls on the England jersey.

Lineker stressed that Maguire’s contributions to the national team are often overlooked. According to him, the Manchester United defender has rarely disappointed for the Three Lions and has remained dependable in major tournaments and important matches, even under intense pressure.

The former Barcelona and England forward added that public perception sometimes clouds fair judgment of players. He believes Maguire’s technical ability, leadership, and resilience make him far better than he is often given credit for, insisting that his performances for England prove his true value as a top-level defender.
