FCT: Oseni Rufai hails Wike for running away from protesting workers

TV presenter and journalist, Oseni Rufai, has praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for choosing a calm and non-violent response when protesting workers picketed his office in Abuja.

Tension rose on Monday as workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), backed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), staged protests over unresolved welfare concerns. The demonstration escalated when protesters reportedly chased the minister’s convoy, with videos circulating online showing workers chanting slogans and demanding attention to unpaid salaries and other entitlements.

Earlier in the day, the protesters had gathered at the National Industrial Court, calling for Wike’s removal and the settlement of outstanding issues such as five months of unpaid salaries, promotion arrears, and poor working conditions. Placards carried during the protest reflected growing frustration among workers who said their grievances had lingered for too long.

Reacting on The Morning Show, Oseni Rufai said although he is not a supporter of Wike, he commended the minister’s decision to avoid confrontation. According to him, Wike could have resorted to force, which might have worsened the situation. Oseni noted that quietly leaving the scene helped prevent violence and further chaos, stressing that restraint in such tense moments is often the better choice.
