2027: Why Labour Party is stongest – Nenadi Usman

The Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, Nenadi Usman, has declared that the party remains the strongest political platform in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. She made this assertion while speaking during an interview on Prime Time, a programme aired on Arise Television.

Usman explained that the Labour Party stands out because it is the only party with strong institutional backing from major labour bodies such as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC). According to her, these organisations give the party a nationwide grassroots presence that cuts across professions, communities, and polling units.

She noted that workers such as teachers, nurses, and retired civil servants are present in virtually every polling unit across the country, giving the Labour Party a natural structure that no other party can match. Usman also stated that the idea of electronic membership registration was pioneered by the Labour Party before being adopted by other political parties.

Reflecting on the 2023 elections, Usman admitted that the party failed to fully utilise its strength because the NLC and TUC were not adequately involved. She said that if labour unions had been properly carried along and deployed as polling agents, the outcome would have been different. According to her, learning from past mistakes and using existing structures effectively will make the Labour Party a major force in 2027.
