A coalition of socio-cultural and professional groups from Southern Kaduna has rejected suggestions that the region is pushing for the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, to emerge as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 elections.
The coalition said comments credited to Engr. Samuel Tabara Kato of the Southern Kaduna United People’s Association (SOKAPUA), which praised President Tinubu and hinted at backing Gen. Musa for the vice-presidency, were purely personal opinions. Speaking to journalists in Kaduna, coalition leaders stressed that no broad consultation was held and that the statement does not reflect the collective position of Southern Kaduna people.
They also questioned the timing of the call, noting that the region is still dealing with serious security challenges, including the recent abduction of more than 170 persons in Kurmin Wali. According to the group, it is inappropriate to discuss political permutations at a time when families are still traumatised and waiting for the safe return of their loved ones.
The coalition emphasised that General Musa’s priority should remain national security, a responsibility entrusted to him by the President. They praised Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his swift response to the Kurmin Wali incident and reaffirmed their support for President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Governor Sani. The group urged Nigerians to avoid divisive narratives and allow the Defence Minister to focus fully on tackling insecurity.
