The Defence Headquarters has announced the conclusion of its investigation into sixteen military officers arrested in October 2025 over alleged acts of indiscipline, including claims of plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government. The probe, carried out by the Armed Forces of Nigeria, followed weeks of internal reviews into activities said to be against military ethics and national security.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 26, 2026, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, confirmed that the investigation report has now been forwarded to the appropriate authorities. He explained that the process was conducted strictly in line with existing military rules and procedures to ensure fairness and due process.
According to the findings, some of the officers were linked to actions considered inconsistent with the professional standards expected of members of the armed forces. The military said these actions included attempts to undermine constitutional authority, which it described as a serious violation of military values and discipline.
The Defence Headquarters added that officers found to have cases to answer will face trial before relevant military judicial panels. The trials will be conducted under the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service laws, as the military reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, professionalism, and loyalty to Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
