The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, alongside his deputy, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu Butu, the Majority Leader, and 22 other lawmakers, have resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and declared their full support for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. The development marks a major political shift within the state legislature.
The decision was confirmed in an official statement issued by the Press Secretary of the Kano State House of Assembly, Kamaludden Sani Shawai. According to the statement, those who exited the NNPP include top principal officers of the House such as the Deputy Majority Leader, Garba Shehu Fammar, and the Chief Whip, Muddasir Ibrahim Zawachiki, along with several other members.
In total, 22 lawmakers were involved in the move, representing constituencies across Kano State, including Ajingi, Albasu, Bagwai/Shanono, Bebeji, Bunkure, Dawakin Kudu, Fagge, Gwale, Karaye, Kura/Garun Malam, Madobi, Minjibir, Rano, Tarauni, Wudil, and others. The Assembly said it had verified and authenticated the list of affected legislators.
The House explained that the announcement was made to clearly inform the public of the lawmakers’ current political position following the governor’s defection. The development is expected to have a significant impact on Kano’s political landscape, especially as alignments continue to shift ahead of future elections.
