Former Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Power, Becks Dagogo-Jack, has said that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, would not have achieved his record as Rivers State governor if he had faced the kind of opposition Governor Siminalayi Fubara is currently dealing with in the State House of Assembly.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Dagogo-Jack described the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State as damaging to residents and unfair to the sitting governor. He argued that the situation is not personal to Fubara, noting that any governor from the same political background could have faced similar challenges due to a pre-existing agenda that went wrong.
Dagogo-Jack accused 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly of prioritising loyalty to an individual rather than the state. He likened their actions to “snakes in the House,” stressing that no leader can govern effectively in such an atmosphere. According to him, even Wike would have struggled to deliver major projects or maintain peace if he had faced such resistance during his tenure.
He praised Governor Fubara’s calm and disciplined approach, saying it has prevented the crisis from escalating further. Dagogo-Jack added that the governor has been forced to govern under intense pressure, making it difficult to fairly assess his performance, as he is constantly balancing governance with political battles.
