Automatic ticket issue will be resolved – APC expresses readiness to receive Kano’s Yusuf

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has said it is fully prepared to welcome Governor Abba Yusuf if he decides to leave the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). The state APC chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, explained that the party remains open to new members and sees defection as a political advantage, noting that politics is largely about building numbers and strength ahead of elections.

Speaking in an interview, Abbas stressed that the APC would not turn away any politician willing to join the party. According to him, adding influential figures like a sitting governor only improves the party’s chances at the polls. He said the party’s doors have always been open to individuals who believe in its vision and want to be part of its growth.

Addressing concerns about automatic tickets for defectors, Abbas described such discussions as premature. He explained that ticket-related matters can only be discussed after all defection processes are completed. He also revealed that Governor Yusuf would not be coming alone, as several local government chairmen, councillors, and other political office holders are expected to move with him.

The APC chairman added that the party would work out a fair arrangement that would accommodate both old and new members without causing internal conflict. He dismissed reports suggesting delays in the governor’s defection, describing them as mere rumours. Abbas noted that defection by a sitting governor requires careful planning and formal steps, assuring that once the process is completed, the APC will focus fully on winning the 2027 general elections.
