Security operatives in Delta State have arrested a 62-year-old man and five others for allegedly being in possession of firearms and ammunition. The suspects were picked up by the Delta State Police Command’s Buffalo Patrol Team during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Head Bridge boundary between Anambra and Delta states. The arrest took place on January 22, 2026, at about 4:10 p.m.
Police said the suspects were travelling in a green Toyota Sienna from Anambra into Delta when officers stopped the vehicle for inspection. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the occupants claimed they were heading to Delta State to welcome a visiting religious leader. However, a thorough search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered concealed weapons.
Items recovered during the operation included three pump-action guns, one locally made Dane gun, a battle axe and 26 live cartridges. The suspects were identified as Nwanlioba Ikechukwu Dominic (62), Agbata Mathew (35), Osita Chineye (39), Favour Peterson (23), Prince Tochukwu (32) and Clement Nwakwa (51). Police noted that all the occupants were dressed in plain clothes at the time of arrest.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue. Authorities said further steps would be taken in line with the law as efforts to curb the movement of illegal weapons and improve security across the state remain ongoing.
