The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has advised its supporters to avoid what it calls a “must-be-my-candidate” mindset, warning that such rigid loyalty could weaken the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party said internal divisions among supporters of different aspirants could affect its chances if not properly managed.
The warning was issued by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bola Abdullahi, during the party’s virtual programme, ADC Coalition Hours, held on Saturday. Abdullahi urged members to embrace unity and support all aspirants collectively, stressing that the party’s success depends on teamwork rather than personal preferences.
He explained that since the ADC was adopted in July 2025 by opposition figures seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu, the party has focused on building strong national structures. Under the leadership of David Mark as National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, the ADC has intensified efforts to gain public trust and present itself as a credible alternative.
Abdullahi noted that several prominent figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, have shown interest in the party’s presidential ticket, with more aspirants expected. He said discussions with key stakeholders highlighted a shared commitment to unity, adding that all leaders agree the priority is winning the election and delivering better governance for Nigerians.
