Wike drags FCTA workers to court

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken legal action against striking workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), challenging the ongoing industrial action at the National Industrial Court. The move follows the indefinite strike declared by unions over unresolved labour issues.

The strike, organised by the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC), began after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum to the FCTA. Since then, major government offices, including the FCTA Secretariat in Abuja, have remained shut, disrupting official activities and public services across the capital territory.

Court documents show that Wike and the FCTA are asking the National Industrial Court to restrain the unions from picketing, blocking offices, or interfering with government operations. The suit, numbered NICN/ABJ/17/2026, has been fixed for hearing on Monday. Justice E. D. Subilim has also approved substituted service of court papers on the union leaders through newspaper publication and notices at the JUAC office within the FCTA Secretariat.

Despite the court action, JUAC has insisted that the strike will continue. The union says its demands have not been met and has directed workers to remain at home until further notice, signaling a prolonged standoff between the FCTA leadership and its workforce.
