The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has temporarily suspended the 2025-26 season following a petition to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) by one of the affected clubs. The suspension comes as more than five players from the club were called up to the U-20 national team, affecting the team’s ability to compete effectively.
The league is now scheduled to resume on Wednesday, 18 February 2026. The decision was communicated in a memo signed by NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, and sent to all participating clubs on Thursday. The memo confirms that the suspension is a one-week mid-season break rather than a full postponement.
Updated fixtures reflecting the revised timeline have been issued to clubs, and all teams are expected to adhere to the new schedule. The NWFL emphasised that the temporary break ensures fairness in competition while accommodating the national team’s preparations.
Currently, Bayelsa Queens lead Group A, while FC Robo Queens top Group B. The league looks forward to resuming smoothly and maintaining competitive balance among all teams as the season progresses.
