A Rivers State political stakeholder, Annkio Briggs, has said the state does not depend on any single individual to survive, insisting that Rivers can function effectively without the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. She made the remark while reacting to the ongoing impeachment moves against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Briggs questioned repeated references to an alleged political “agreement” often mentioned by Wike and his supporters. She argued that no individual should be presented as indispensable to the existence of a whole state. According to her, claims suggesting that Rivers State cannot survive without Wike are unacceptable and do not reflect the will of the people.
Briggs maintained that the majority of Rivers residents are firmly behind Governor Fubara, stressing that his support base is organic and grassroots-driven. She added that even if the governor decides to switch political parties to protect his position, the people’s backing would remain strong because it is based on performance and trust, not party affiliation.
While clarifying that she is not a member of the All Progressives Congress, Briggs said her loyalty lies with Rivers State and its people. She noted that her voting decision would always depend on what a candidate offers and the prevailing political circumstances, insisting that Rivers people, not political godfathers, have the final say in choosing their leaders.
