Troops of the Nigerian Army under 6 Brigade, Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE, have recorded another success in the fight against illegal arms trafficking in Taraba State. The soldiers arrested suspected gun runners and recovered weapons during a carefully planned intelligence-led operation carried out in collaboration with the Defence Intelligence Agency.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Brigade’s acting spokesperson, Lt. Umar Muhammad, the operation followed the earlier arrest of two suspects, Christopher Adamu and James Yangyang. They were apprehended on January 11 and 12, 2026, at Sebos Joint in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo Local Government Area, and Tautre Village in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area. The arrests were based on sustained surveillance and credible intelligence from members of the public.
Further acting on reliable information, troops conducted a cordon and search operation at Murubai Village in Ardo-Kola LGA. During the exercise, one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and four rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the residence of another suspected arms trafficker, identified as Bazoe John, who is currently on the run. The military said the operation was professionally executed without any casualties.
Commending the troops, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised their discipline and commitment. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s resolve to curb arms proliferation and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with useful information to help maintain peace and stability in Taraba State.
