Ogun: Police nab 8 suspected truck hijackers, recover pistol, bags of cements

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested eight suspected members of a robbery gang linked to violent attacks and trailer truck hijackings along the Papalanto–Ilaro and Owode–Idiroko corridors. The arrests followed a coordinated, intelligence-led operation by officers of the Anti-Robbery Squad attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Police spokesperson, CSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that the suspects were picked up at different locations across the state after weeks of surveillance and tracking. He said detectives relied on sustained intelligence gathering and crime pattern analysis to identify and dismantle the group. According to him, the operation led to the recovery of a hijacked trailer truck, about 900 bags of cement, and a locally made single-barrel pistol.

Babaseyi explained that most of the stolen cement had already been moved to a warehouse, which was traced and raided by operatives before the suspects were fully intercepted. He added that investigations are still ongoing, with efforts focused on locating and arresting other members of the syndicate who are currently on the run.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to strengthen intelligence-driven policing and proactive crime prevention across Ogun State. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, assuring the public that all suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
