Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is committed to conducting a credible, transparent, and internationally recognized national census. The Minister made the remarks in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the National Population Commission (NPC), led by Chairman Dr Aminu Yusuf.
Idris emphasized that accurate population data is crucial for effective national planning and development. He noted that the presidential proclamation remains the legal foundation for the census and that all measures are being aligned to meet global standards. The Minister also stressed the importance of public communication and inter-agency collaboration to ensure full transparency.
Dr Aminu Yusuf commended the Ministry for its support in mobilizing the public and highlighted that the NPC is operationally ready for the census. He noted that personnel, logistics, ICT systems, and other infrastructures have been refined to guarantee efficiency and reliability when the new census date is announced.
Both officials underscored the need for sustained public enlightenment using government media platforms. Yusuf highlighted that public trust is central to successful population management, while Idris assured that the Ministry will continue to advocate for government programs and policies in the national interest.
