The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for an urgent investigation into reports that the Labour Movement Organisation (LMO) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) allegedly sponsored 27 electoral officers on a pilgrimage. The party described the alleged act as a potential breach of electoral integrity and a threat to the neutrality of election officials.
In a statement on Monday, the ADC said such sponsorship raises serious questions about fairness, transparency, and the ethical conduct of those overseeing elections. The party emphasized that no electoral officer should engage in activities that might compromise their impartiality or influence voters.
The party urged relevant authorities, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and anti-corruption agencies, to investigate the matter promptly and ensure that any breach of law or ethical standards is sanctioned accordingly. ADC also appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and report irregularities that could undermine democratic processes.
The ADC warned that the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system must be protected at all costs, stressing that election officials must remain neutral and free from political or personal influence while carrying out their duties.
