Rivers crisis: Fubara impeachment plot shows Tinubu can’t protect APC govs – Rufai Oseni

The ongoing political tension in Rivers State has taken a new turn following claims of an impeachment plot against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. According to journalist and political commentator Rufai Oseni, the situation exposes deeper problems within Nigeria’s political system and raises questions about the ruling party’s internal cohesion.

Oseni argued that the alleged move against Fubara suggests that President Bola Tinubu may be unable to effectively shield governors affiliated with the All Progressives Congress, APC, from internal political battles. He noted that the crisis in Rivers reflects how fragile political alliances can quickly turn into power struggles.

The commentator also pointed out that impeachment threats are often used as political weapons rather than constitutional tools. In his view, such tactics weaken democratic institutions and distract elected leaders from governance and development at the state level.

Oseni concluded by warning that if political disagreements continue to be handled through intimidation and force, public confidence in democracy will suffer. He urged political actors to prioritize dialogue, rule of law, and respect for democratic processes to prevent further instability in Rivers State and beyond.
