The Federal High Court has acquitted Mahdi Shehu of all six charges brought against him, bringing an end to a legal battle that attracted public attention. The court ruled that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the allegations levelled against the defendant.
In delivering the judgment, the presiding judge held that the charges were not proven beyond reasonable doubt as required by law. The court emphasized that justice must be based on facts and credible evidence, not assumptions or public sentiment. As a result, all six counts were dismissed.
Mahdi Shehu, who had consistently maintained his innocence throughout the trial, welcomed the court’s decision. Supporters described the judgment as a victory for justice and the rule of law, noting that the court carefully reviewed the facts before reaching its conclusion.
The ruling has now cleared Shehu of all legal liabilities connected to the case. Legal observers say the judgment reinforces the importance of due process and fair hearing in Nigeria’s judicial system, especially in high-profile cases.
