NCAT risks shut down as aviation unions issue 14 days ultimatum

The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) is facing the risk of closure after aviation unions issued a 14-day ultimatum to the institution. The unions warned that failure to address their concerns could force them to take industrial action, potentially disrupting operations at the college.

The ultimatum stems from unresolved grievances raised by the unions, including issues related to staff welfare, unpaid allowances, and working conditions. Union leaders insist that the government and NCAT management act promptly to prevent escalation.

Aviation stakeholders have expressed concern over the potential impact of a shutdown, highlighting that NCAT plays a crucial role in training pilots, air traffic controllers, and other aviation professionals vital to Nigeria’s aviation industry. They stressed that any disruption could affect both students and the broader aviation sector.

The unions have urged NCAT management and relevant government authorities to urgently engage in dialogue. They emphasized that failure to respond within 14 days will leave them with no choice but to escalate actions, which may include strikes or work stoppages.
