AFCON: I don’t want anybody to criticize Chukwueze, Onyemaechi – Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has spoken out strongly in defence of teammates Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi amid criticism of their performances at the Africa Cup of Nations. The Nigerian international said it was unfair for fans to single out individuals when football is a collective effort.

Iwobi stressed that both players have given their best for the national team and do not deserve harsh judgment. According to him, pressure and expectations come with wearing the Nigerian jersey, but players also need encouragement rather than constant attacks from supporters and analysts.

The Fulham star noted that criticism can affect players’ confidence, especially during a major tournament like AFCON. He urged fans to remember that mistakes are part of the game and that unity within the team is key to achieving success on the continental stage.

As the Super Eagles continue their AFCON campaign, Iwobi’s message highlights the importance of solidarity among players and fans alike. He believes backing the team through difficult moments will boost morale and help Nigeria perform better as the tournament progresses.
