Rivers: Why Fubara’s impeachment will fail – Gov’s aide, Orji

An aide to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has explained why the ongoing impeachment attempt against the governor is unlikely to succeed. The aide, Mr. Orji, described the move as politically driven and lacking the constitutional backing required to remove a sitting governor.

Speaking on the development, Orji said the impeachment process does not meet the conditions set out in the Nigerian Constitution. According to him, allegations being pushed by lawmakers do not amount to gross misconduct, which is the only valid ground for removing a governor or deputy governor from office.

Orji also argued that the process appears rushed and aimed at creating instability in Rivers State rather than ensuring accountability. He noted that Governor Fubara has remained focused on governance and development, despite distractions from political opponents seeking to undermine his administration.

The governor’s aide called on political actors to respect democratic principles and allow due process to prevail. He warned that attempts to forcefully remove the governor could backfire and deepen political tension in the state, stressing that dialogue and peace remain the best path forward for Rivers State.
