National disgrace’ – Peter Obi on alleged $9m US lobbying deal

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has described the alleged $9 million lobbying deal in the United States as a “national disgrace.” Obi said such reports, if true, damage Nigeria’s image globally and raise serious questions about leadership priorities.

Reacting to the controversy, Obi stressed that public funds should be used to solve Nigeria’s pressing problems at home rather than being spent on foreign lobbying. He noted that insecurity, poverty, unemployment and poor healthcare remain major challenges facing Nigerians.

According to Obi, leaders should focus on rebuilding trust, strengthening institutions and improving governance instead of trying to polish Nigeria’s image abroad through expensive contracts. He warned that no amount of foreign lobbying can fix a broken system at home.

The former Anambra State governor called for transparency and accountability, urging the government to clearly explain the details surrounding the alleged deal. He maintained that Nigeria’s reputation would only improve when leaders show responsibility, honesty and commitment to the welfare of citizens.
