Fubara’s impeachment plot: Labour Party calls for calm

The Labour Party in Rivers State has appealed for calm and political maturity following the impeachment notice issued against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The state chairman of the party, Mrs Hilda Dokubo, urged political actors to prioritise peace and the overall interest of Rivers people above personal or partisan ambitions.

Speaking after an INEC stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt, Dokubo described the impeachment move as a major distraction from governance. She noted that Rivers State is only beginning to recover from six months of emergency rule characterised by instability, hardship, and slowed development, stressing that renewed political tension could reverse recent progress.

Dokubo expressed disappointment over the unfolding events, warning that dragging the state back into political turmoil would hurt ordinary citizens the most. She called on leaders to stop actions that threaten peace, reminding them that stability is essential for residents to live, work, and raise their families safely.

The Labour Party chair also praised four members of the State House of Assembly who reconsidered their position on the impeachment notice, urging others to follow suit. She called for genuine dialogue rather than political manoeuvres, insisting that Governor Fubara should be allowed to continue his work so the state can enjoy sustained governance and development.
