The European Union (EU) has extended its sanctions against Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), citing ongoing concerns over their involvement in militant activities. The move ensures that financial and travel restrictions on these groups remain in place.
The EU stated that the decision was made to prevent these organizations from carrying out attacks or financing acts of violence. The sanctions include asset freezes, travel bans, and restrictions on dealings with EU-based institutions.
Officials emphasized that the extension reflects the EU’s commitment to promoting peace and security in the Middle East. They warned that any group engaging in terrorism or armed violence will continue to face strict penalties under EU law.
The sanctions come amid heightened tensions in the region, as the EU works closely with international partners to curb extremist activity and support peaceful resolutions to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
