Former senator Shehu Sani has warned that Nigeria cannot rely on foreign countries to stop bandits and insecurity, insisting that Nigerians must take responsibility for their own security. He stated this while speaking on the rising threat of armed groups and kidnappers across the country.
Sani emphasized that external powers may provide advice or support, but the actual fight against banditry and criminal networks must be led by the Nigerian people and security forces. He noted that relying solely on foreigners would only prolong the nation’s security challenges.
The former lawmaker called for stronger community cooperation with law enforcement and active participation of citizens in safeguarding their towns and villages. According to him, intelligence sharing and vigilance are key in reducing kidnappings and attacks by bandits.
He concluded by urging government authorities to prioritize internal strategies and capacity building for the military and police, saying that Nigeria’s long-term peace depends on self-reliance and coordinated national efforts rather than waiting for outside intervention.
