The Edo State Police Command has disclosed a case where a man sold his property to raise ransom for his brother, who had faked his own kidnapping. The police explained that the victim of the deception acted out of concern for his sibling’s safety.
According to police reports, the alleged staged abduction involved the brother sending messages to family members claiming he had been kidnapped and needed a large sum for release. Trusting the information, the man sold part of his property to gather the requested money.
The authorities confirmed that the suspect who faked the kidnapping has been arrested and is currently under investigation. Police have emphasized the legal consequences of orchestrating false kidnappings, which mislead families and waste police resources.
The Edo Police Command also advised the public to verify information and avoid paying ransom demands without contacting law enforcement. They encouraged citizens to report suspicious cases promptly to prevent similar incidents in the future.
