Senator Ogoshi Onawo has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a move that has stirred fresh political reactions within his state and the party at large. His decision was confirmed in a resignation letter submitted to his ward leadership, where he cited personal and political reasons for stepping away from the party.
Although Onawo did not disclose his next political destination, his exit is already fueling speculation about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party insiders say the development could affect PDP’s internal balance, especially in areas where the senator commands strong grassroots support.
Supporters of the senator have described his decision as strategic, noting that Nigeria’s political environment is evolving and politicians are increasingly reviewing their affiliations. Some believe the resignation could open the door for Onawo to play a broader role on the national political stage.
Meanwhile, PDP leaders have expressed disappointment over the senator’s departure but wished him well in his future political pursuits. The party maintained that it remains focused on strengthening its structures and preparing for upcoming political contests across the country.
