The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its online portal for media accreditation ahead of the Rivers State bye-elections in the Ahoada East II and Khana II constituencies. The elections are scheduled to hold on February 21, 2026, and the Commission says only accredited media organisations will be allowed to cover the exercise officially.
INEC made the announcement through its official social media platform, urging interested media organisations to complete their applications online. The Commission explained that the process is aimed at ensuring proper identification, orderliness, and professionalism during election coverage.
According to INEC, the online accreditation portal will close on February 8, 2026, and no applications will be accepted after the deadline. Media organisations have therefore been advised to apply early to avoid being shut out of the accreditation process.
The Commission also stressed that the accreditation is strictly for media organisations and journalists who intend to cover the bye-elections physically. INEC encouraged the media to cooperate with electoral officials to ensure peaceful, transparent, and credible elections in Rivers State.
