No fewer than 95 princes and princesses from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House have declared interest in becoming the next Awujale of Ijebuland. This development became public at the start of a nomination meeting held at Bisi Rodipe Hall in the GRA area of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
The Olori Ebi of the ruling house, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, also known as Otunba Jadiara, announced the figure while addressing members of the royal family and traditional leaders. He explained that only candidates who meet the required criteria would move to the next stage of the selection process.
According to him, the names of successful candidates would be sent to the Afobajes, the traditional kingmakers, who will choose one person and forward the final name to the Ogun State Government for approval. This process follows the long-standing tradition guiding royal succession in Ijebuland.
Owoyemi added that anyone who is not satisfied with the process is free to take their complaints to the appropriate authorities. He urged all interested parties to maintain peace and respect tradition as the kingdom prepares to choose a new Awujale.
