Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway to be tolled after inauguration — Umahi

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced that the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway will be tolled after it is officially inaugurated. He said the toll system is necessary to help the government recover part of the huge investment made on the project and also to ensure proper maintenance of the road.

Umahi explained that tolling is a common practice across the world for major highways and is one of the best ways to keep such large infrastructure in good condition. According to him, the funds generated from the tolls will be used to repair the road, improve safety, and provide continuous monitoring to prevent damage and misuse.

The minister added that the coastal highway is expected to play a major role in boosting trade, tourism, and transportation along Nigeria’s coastline. By linking major cities and economic hubs, the road will make it easier to move people and goods while reducing travel time and cost.

He assured Nigerians that the toll fees would be fair and affordable and that special consideration may be given to commercial vehicles and regular users. Umahi encouraged the public to see the tolls as a contribution to keeping the highway safe, functional, and beneficial for everyone.
