The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway is already serving a useful purpose even though construction is still ongoing. He explained that the road is not just a future project but one that is already improving transportation and opening up economic activities along the coastal corridor.
Umahi said the project is helping to create jobs, improve access to coastal communities, and boost business activities in areas that were previously difficult to reach. He added that construction work has brought contractors, engineers, and local workers together, which is positively affecting the local economy.
According to the minister, the highway will also improve national connectivity by linking major cities and states along Nigeria’s coastline. This, he said, will reduce travel time, improve trade, and make it easier to move goods and services between the southern regions of the country.
He assured Nigerians that the federal government is committed to completing the project to the highest standard and within the planned timeframe. Umahi urged citizens to be patient and support the project, describing it as a long-term investment that will benefit generations to come.
