Fubara, deputy gov’s impeachment ongoing, not suspended – Rivers Assembly

The Rivers State House of Assembly has clarified that the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy is still ongoing and has not been suspended. The Assembly said reports suggesting that the process had been put on hold were false and misleading.

According to lawmakers, all actions being taken are in line with the constitution and the Assembly’s standing rules. They stated that the House remains committed to following due process and ensuring that every step of the impeachment exercise is handled lawfully and transparently.

The Assembly also urged the public to ignore rumours circulating on social media, stressing that only official statements from the House should be trusted. It added that the impeachment process is a serious constitutional matter and should not be treated with speculation or emotional reactions.

Meanwhile, residents of Rivers State continue to watch developments closely as political tension remains high in the state. Many citizens and civil society groups have called for calm, dialogue, and respect for democratic principles as the situation unfolds.
