Abia Govt sets up panel to probe crisis in Okon-Aku community

The Abia State Government has set up a special panel to investigate the crisis in the Okon-Aku community. The decision followed rising tensions and complaints from residents over violence, destruction of property and a breakdown of peace in the area. The government said the aim is to find out the real cause of the crisis and restore calm as quickly as possible.

Officials explained that the panel will listen to all sides, including community leaders, youths, security agencies and other stakeholders. The panel is expected to gather facts, identify those responsible for the unrest and make recommendations that will help prevent similar conflicts in the future. The government stressed that the process will be fair, open and guided by the law.

The state government also urged residents of Okon-Aku to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. It assured the people that security agencies are on ground to protect lives and property while the investigation is ongoing. Residents were encouraged to cooperate with the panel by providing useful information.

The government said peace and unity are necessary for development and progress. It promised to act on the panel’s findings and ensure justice is served so that lasting peace can return to the community.
